Students applying for admission to the International Graduate Programs for Educators with an estimated grade point average below the minimum requirement of 2.5 are eligible to be considered for pre-major admission. Students who have earned a GPA of 2.0-2.5 in their previous studies can be accepted as a pre-major student based on an interview and recommendation of the IGPE staff to The Graduate School. In the case of students who may qualify for pre-major status, we can interview students to determine their academic readiness to take graduate level courses. After the interview, we will assess whether a pre-major status recommendation to The Graduate School would be appropriate.
As a pre-major student, students are eligible to complete two three credit courses and must receive a minimum grade of B for each (with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0). Only six credit hours of coursework completed as a pre-major student are potentially applicable to a master’s degree program. The two courses may be applied toward the student’s degree requirements after successful application and acceptance into the Multidisciplinary Studies program. Our staff will work together with the student to find courses offered at their site that would be beneficial and help them transition smoothly into the International Graduate Program for Educators course load.
